Golfer Missed Cut, WD, MDF, or DNF - Explained

In this article, we are going to show you exactly how each option for handling Cut golfers works.

*Note: The same rules apply for any round not completed by a golfer, for example: golfer withdraws (WD), makes cut does not finish (MDF), or any other reason a round isn't completed.

Cut Golfer Options

OPTION #1: Cut Golfers Get 80 (Default Option)

Cut golfers will get a score of 80 for rounds 3 and 4. If par for the course is 72, this means that each cut golfer will have their score automatically increased by +16 total after the cut is established (+8 for both rounds). This is the default option because it is easiest to explain to your poolies and penalizes golfers for not making the cut.

Example on Your Pool Leaderboard:

Keegan Bradley misses cut, his score gets increased to +22 total, with his first two rounds still counting at 72 and 78, and 80 getting assigned for rounds 3 and 4. Four round total = Even Par, +6, +8, +8 = +22

OPTION #2: Cut Golfers Get Highest Carded Score

Cut golfers will get a score based on the highest carded round from any golfer that actually finishes rounds 3 and 4.

Pools that assign cut golfers the highest carded round will have golfers assigned even par until at least 1 golfer finishes the round. This score will fluctuate (get higher) as the highest carded round changes for Round 3 and Round 4.

Example on Your Pool Leaderboard:

Keegan Bradley misses cut, his score gets increased to +21 total, with his first two rounds still counting at 72 and 78, round 3 gets assigned 78, and round 4 gets assigned 81. Four round total = Even Par, +6, +6, +9 = +21. This example is from the Players Championship in 2024, where the worst R3 score was 78 shot by Seamus Power, and the worst R4 score was 81 shot by Peter Malnati.

Worst score from round 3 = 78

Worst score from round 4 = 81

OPTION #3: Cut Golfers Get Score Relative to Par (Even, +1, +2, etc.)

Cut golfers will get a specific score relative to par for rounds 3 and 4. The pool admin chooses how many strokes (Even or +1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) cut golfers get penalized for each unfinished round in relation to par.

+2 Example on Your Pool Leaderboard:

Keegan Bradley misses cut, his score gets increased to +10 total, with his first two rounds still counting at 72 and 78, round 3 gets assigned 74, and round 4 gets assigned 74. Four round total = Even Par, +6, +2, +2 = +10.

Cut Golfers When Money Earnings Scoring is Used

If you choose money earnings for your pool scoring option, golfers that miss the cut will get awarded $0.
